America’s Next Top Model Declared – Whitney Thompson

ANTM’s 10th cycle winner was declared Wednesday, May 14th, 2008. Whitney Thompson is the first winner of this show to be plus-sized, full figured or however else you want to name it. This show is a guilty pleasure of mine, particularly in the reality TV genre. The fashion and photography are the highlights of the show, and self admittedly, Tyra’s insane antics keep me watching. Every week, I watch to witness in what fashion this self obsessed future media mogul will promote her own success in the world. Like a massive car crash, I watch with wide eyes.

Back to the cycle’s winner, Whitney. There have been varying full figured contestants on this program in cycles past with Whitney being the first to make it all the way. My question is whether Whitney realizes she is most likely a simple minion at Tyra’s disposal; a mere player in Tyra’s quest for world domination. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I believe this move by Tyra and/or ANTM to be highly calculated. Tyra’s mantra, particularly on her talk show, is to broaden or pretend to try and broaden modern imagery of female appearance, i.e. her use of an overweight body suit to experience life plus sized. Having an ANTM full figured model justifies Tyra’s talk show commentary, and fuels Tyra’s desire to conquer the world via “Bankable Productions.”  It fulfills Tyra’s overall desire to play to her demographic, rather than the reality of the fashion world.

Tyra has realized the hypocracy of her ANTM ambition in relation to her talk show and now Whitney completes Tyra’s circle. ANTM does not create the next supermodels. It effectively creates multiple tools at Tyra’s disposal, and Whitney is only the next step in Tyra’s plan to be the next Oprah.

Gossip pages across the net. Entertainment news venues. They are all going crazy over the reported marriage between Mariah Carey and some actor. Be a conspiracy theorist and trust that this is a huge publicity stunt to promote Carey’s new album. It is the only possible reasoning. After seeing Mariah Carey display a massive walk in closet specifically for her lingerie collection; after hearing her discuss her weight loss; I have one thing to say after this reported impromptu marriage… “GO AWAY MARIAH!” Let the real women do the work in music… (Madonna, Cher, Kylie perhaps!)
